May 10, 2007 - Wow, so it's like microscopic iron dust sorta?
yeslegros Says:
May 15, 2007 - Does it have any applications?
youtuuba Says:
May 15, 2007 - Ferro Fluid is commonly used as a seal around the shafts/bearings of hard disk drives, and as coolants for audio speaker electromagnets, in radar absorbant materials (military aircraft, etc), as a polishing agent for precision mirrors (Hubbell Space Telescope), etc.

May 19, 2007 - They are also starting to use it in shocks for humvee type vehicles

May 22, 2007 - wow, thats awesome. with which camera have you recorded that ? looks great.

May 27, 2007 - Thats really interesting* Its quite a material! I was planning on having a little experimaent with it so thanks for including info on how to handle it. One question though- if you have seen the MIT video where it is between two sheets of glass and then an alternating current is set though the magent- where would you get or hire an magnet that can be adjusted to different frewquencies? ANd also what type of magnet strength did you use? Thanks G

May 28, 2007 - Hi Paul, One more question- at the end of your video, you have two black sticks that seem to 'suck' the fluid away. Are they magnetising rods or something? Cheers G

May 29, 2007 - I was just wondering how do you get that stuff off he screw.

May 30, 2007 - can you not just get it out again with a powerful magnet??

May 31, 2007 - one question : WHERE U CAN FIND THIS

Jul 18, 2007 - where are the "two strong magnets?"
youtuuba Says:
Jul 18, 2007 - Some replys from the autor of the video: The camera auto focus would not work on the ferrofluid, and this was not discovered when filming the first part of the video - sorry! If you touch it, the nono-scale rerrous particles will fit into the structure of your skin, permanently staining the skin black. this will last until the layers of skin wear off over time The two strong magnets ate at the bottom of the large bolt

Jul 20, 2007 - how long can the sculpture (if thats what you can call it) last?
youtuuba Says:
Jul 20, 2007 - forever, or until you remove the magnets that are holding it's shape.
skwerl23 Says:
Aug 28, 2007 - well the magnets are under the plastic cup. now there magnetism would last for longer than you would even hope to live. i dont know the exact life of the magnets, but unless something really disturbs them its 100's of millions of years i believe. i think the ferrofluid (oil with tiny metal iron shavings mixed in) would seperate before the magnet lost power. so you would have iron particles stuck to a bolt with oil in the cup.

Oct 5, 2007 - bought some of this fluid from unitednucleardotcom, they sell it in vials from 4ml($3.00us)to 175ml($65.00us), as well as magnets of various sizes. Some of them are HUGE and come with strong warnings not to even walk through a room with a T.V. or monitor while carrying one of these, or it will suck the picture right off!!! If you are holding one with your credit card in your wallet, it will whipe it clean from 20 feet away!!
Stevanhale Says:
Oct 5, 2007 - BEWARE!! This stuff is VERY messy, it is just like motor oil when it is not next to a magnet and will stain everything! When it is stuck to a magnet, it feels like a firm yet squishy jell.
Stevanhale Says:
Dec 5, 2007 - Your run on sentence has me confused!! I have no idea what you mean! Punctuation, please! I have no connection to the people who sell this. I just thought people would like to know where to get some. Judging from the comments, not many people have ever played with any. If you have a problem with the comments, maby you shouldn't read them.

Dec 28, 2007 - can you touch ferrofluid safly?
kushy04 Says:
Jan 9, 2008 - Ferrofluid is iron particles suspended in a liquid, i forget if it is oil based or water based. But my best bet would be that the fluid is oil based, although its not impossible for it to be water based. its harmless to touch, i wouldnt advise injesting it as i dont know the complete makeup of the fluid. it WILL stain clothing and skin.
